An illustrated lecture by Patrick O'Brien

at
The Annapolis Maritime Museum
723 Second Street
Annapolis, Maryland, 21403

April 8, 2010 — 7:00 to 8:30 PM

In this illustrated lecture, Patrick O’Brien will discuss how he brings maritime history to life on the canvas. He will discuss the thorough research that goes into his paintings — from reading old journals of sailors and admirals, to studying antique charts and sailing manuals. He will talk about his investigations into the history of Baltimore’s harbor and the Annapolis waterfront. He will then discuss how he translates this historical information into paintings, including the step-by-step process of recreating the Battle of the Chesapeake Bay, a turning point in the Revolutionary War. O’Brien will bring some of his original paintings for closer examination.
