COMMISSIONS

I have created many commissioned paintings for private individuals as well as corporate clients. If you like my artwork but don’t live near one of the galleries that carries my work, or if you have something specific in mind, give me a call or email me. Here’s how it works:

First, we discuss the subject you are interested in. Often people are interested in an ancestor’s ship, or a particular battle, or a local maritime event.

Based on our discussion, I’ll create one or more detailed color sketches. I’ll show them to you by email, and we will discuss them. You can make comments, suggestions and changes. (below are some samples of color sketches from an earlier commission.)

Then, based on our discussion, I’ll revise the color sketch if needed. I’ll show this to you, and if there are more changes I’ll incorporate them into another revised sketch.

When I am sure I know exactly what you want, I’ll start the oil painting. The whole process usually takes about one to three months from first discussion to finished painting.

Prices range from about $4000 to $11,000, depending on size and complexity. The price includes framing and shipping. I ask for 1/3 of the total price up front, 1/3 upon approval of a sketch, and the final 1/3 upon completion.

Below are three preliminary sketches I did for a client who wanted a painting of the submarine his father had served on. The client then chose his favorite, and I worked that up into a more complete sketch for final approval.
